End-use application	Steel for the manufacture of laminated springs for railway rolling stock, specifically in the form of flat sections, is engineered for use in the suspension systems of railway vehicles and plays a vital role in providing support, stability, and damping to the railway carriage or locomotive, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride over uneven tracks.

 The Ministry of Steel, Government of India, has taken a significant step towards ensuring Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards in the manufacturing and importation of various goods. Through Quality Control Orders (QCOs), the ministry aims to regulate products, fostering a nationwide environment of safety and quality.   

In line with this commitment, a new QCO has been issued to regulate the “Steel for the manufacture of laminated springs (railway rolling stock) Flat Sections – Specification.” This falls under the mandatory BIS-ISI Mark certification scheme (also known as Scheme-I of Schedule II). Manufacturers and importers must obtain a valid license by the specified deadline. Non-compliance will lead to the prohibition of importing, manufacturing or selling these goods in the Indian market.

Its implementation is designed to safeguard consumers, promote standardization, maintain public health and safety, facilitate international trade, and drive economic growth.
