The Ministry of Steel, Government of India, has taken a significant step towards ensuring Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards in the manufacturing and importation of various goods. Through Quality Control Orders (QCOs), the ministry aims to regulate products, fostering a nationwide environment of safety and quality.     

In line with this objective, a recent QCO has been introduced to regulate the “Carbon-chromium Steel for the Manufacture of Balls, Rollers and Bearing Races- Specification’. This product falls under the mandatory BIS-ISI Mark certification scheme (also known as Scheme-I of Schedule II). Manufacturers and importers must obtain a valid license by the specified deadline. Non-compliance will lead to the prohibition of importing, manufacturing or selling these goods in the Indian market.  

Certification is pivotal in ensuring products adhere to the specific quality and safety standards mandated by the government. Its implementation is designed to safeguard consumers, promote standardization, maintain public health and safety, facilitate international trade, and drive economic growth.
