Scope	This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods of sampling and testing for sodium tripolyphosphate, anhydrous, technical, for use as a detergent builder, and as a deflocculant.

Implementation date	The implementation date was initially December 16, 2020, but following an amendment, it has been revised to March 13, 2025.
End-use application	Sodium tripolyphosphate, anhydrous, is widely used in detergents for enhancing cleaning, in food processing for improving the texture and life of products, and in water treatment for preventing scale formation and corrosion.

In line with this objective, a recent QCO has been issued to regulate “Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Anhydrous, Technical”. This product falls under the mandatory BIS-ISI Mark certification scheme (Scheme-I of Schedule II), making it imperative for manufacturers and importers to obtain a valid license by a specified deadline. Failure to comply will prohibit importing, manufacturing or selling these goods in the Indian market.
