The Customer
A global Taiwan-based PVC manufacturer
Pain Points to be Addressed
The Indian market demanded BIS-ISI-certified PVC products. However, the manufacturer was unable to obtain BIS-ISI licenses as the ISI standard (IS 10951) for PVC products did not apply to the customer’s product.
Key Challenges Faced
- The existing ISI standard (IS 10951) for PVC products did not apply to the customer’s product.
- The IS 10951 standard covered PVC products intended for applications involving contact with food, pharmaceuticals, and drinking water.
- Customers’ PVC products were not intended for the applications mentioned.
Team Vincular Rolled their Sleeves
- Worked closely with the BIS-Petrochemical department and industry associations to share comments and suggestions for formulating new PVC product standards.
- Contributed to the development of test clauses, test methods, and other essential elements of the standard.
- Participated actively in the process for approximately 5 months, leading to the publication of the new standard.
Impact on the Customer
- The customer’s supply chain was severely disrupted.
- Financial losses due to the inability to meet market demand.
- Missed opportunities to expand the business in India.
- Loss of trust and customer loyalty due to the lack of certified products.
But in Fact, the Result was
- Vincular collaborated with the sectional committee of BIS, resulting in the publication of a new standard for PVC: IS 17658.
- The customer successfully obtained the BIS-ISI mark license for their product under the new standard, giving them an edge over other manufacturers.
