Scope | This standard covers the requirements for instantaneous domestic water heaters of nominal useful heat output less than 25 kW (based on gross calorific value), for use with Piped Natural Gases (PNG) at a working pressure of 21 mbar (21.41 gf/cm2). It is an inlet water-controlled appliance. It specifies the main constructional and performance characteristics for the instantaneous domestic water heater. It also sets the appropriate test methods for evaluating test characteristics. Appliances for boiling water are not covered in this standard. |

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, specifically the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, regularly issues Quality Control Orders (QCOs) under the aspect of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) to regulate various types of goods imported into or manufactured locally within the country. The objective is to foster a safe and quality-centric environment nationwide.
In line with this objective, a recent QCO has been issued to regulate “Mini domestic water heater for use with piped natural gas (PNG)s”. This product falls under the mandatory BIS-ISI Mark certification scheme (Scheme-I of Schedule II), making it mandatory for manufacturers and importers to obtain a valid license by a specified deadline. Failure to comply will prohibit importing, manufacturing or selling these goods in the Indian market.
