PESO (Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization of India) is one of the prestigious departments under the Ministry of Commerce to lookup statutory safety regulations to safeguard public safety, life, property, and environment. It majorly covers the mandatory license for the oil and gas industry, or the product used in the oil and gas industry and for those products which are used in hazardous areas.

4. Explosive Material handling, transportation, disposal, and those products used in the Gas and Oil Industry

Companies/Stakeholders who are in the following business are required to undergo with the PESO Certification:

Degassing and Purging under SMPV(U)

Gas Cylinder Testing Stations

Who can apply?

Both Indian and foreign manufacturers can apply for the PESO certification. However, if the manufacturing unit is outside India, then they required an Indian entity who can become the Indian representative and after-sales partner for the particular product. PESO Certification is a kind of necessary clearance scheme for the oil & gas sectors or items that deal with the gases, are utilized in the oil businesses, or must survive very corrosive conditions.

PESO department has created an online portal to generate mandatory import permission for the filled gas cylinder.

All the electrical products, mechanical products that will be used in a flammable sensitive area or area where explosive gases are present require PESO approval as per petroleum rule under the flameproof product. This approval ensures that the product is resistant to fire and secures the safety of the flammable area by its flameproof nature. Further, the flammable area is divided into three zones-

Zone-0       Zone-1       Zone-2

PESO approval is mandatorily required if the product is used in the above-mentioned zone.

Pre-requisite

1. Must have IECEX COC, QAR and IECEx Test report for non-EU countries and EU country required ATEX report.
2. Details of the Consignee.
3. Details of the importer/AIR with mutual agreement between them (for the foreign manufacturer).
