The Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) has proactively issued a detailed clarification to strengthen compliance for Smart Electricity Meters, specifying how EMI/EMC and Safety test reports from BIS-recognised laboratories will be accepted and documented to ensure greater accuracy and transparency.

Key Points:

  1. For equipment tested on or before 12.06.2025:

TEC will accept EMI/EMC and Safety test reports even if they do not include the model number or code of the communication module (WAN/NAN with frequency), as long as the OEM submits a formal self-declaration that confirms and specifies the module’s exact model number or code.

  2. For equipment submitted after 12.06.2025:

OEMs must explicitly include the model number or code of the communication module (covering WAN/NAN with frequency) in all EMI/EMC and Safety test reports submitted for certification, ensuring full traceability and compliance.

This move ensures greater traceability and transparency in Smart Meter certification, strengthening consumer confidence and regulatory oversight.

For OEMs and stakeholders, it’s crucial to align with these timelines to ensure continued compliance.
