
Standard Revised for Digital Television Receiver for Satellite Broadcast Transmission
BIS has published the first revision of the standard Digital Television Receiver for Satellite Broadcast Transmission – Specification. Now the previous version IS 18112:2022 has been revised and updated to IS 18112:2025 setting new benchmarks for Digital TV (DTV) Receivers for Satellite Broadcast Transmission in India.
What’s New in IS 18112:2025?
This revision has been brought out to provide further guidance to demonstrate compliance with this standard. Major changes are as follows:
- Definitions have been aligned with IS 1885 (Part 24): 2023/ IEC 60050-723:1997 ensuring standardized terminology.
- For safety requirements IS/IEC 62368-1 has been included along with IS 616 which needs to be selected as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- Annexure B has been included listing all the abbreviations used in the standard.
- Power consumption requirement has been removed as Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) regulates this requirement for Televisions in India.
- The Specification and Performance Requirements table now includes Compliance Criteria and Test Methods providing guidance related to procedures to demonstrate compliance to the requirements.
As of now, BIS and MeitY are yet to release official notification regarding the implementation of IS 18112:2025. Therefore, we will keep you informed for further updates.
