MeitY Extends Deadline for Digital TV Receiver under CRO

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially extended the implementation deadline for compliance with IS 18112:2022 — the Indian Standard for Digital Television Receivers for Satellite Broadcast Transmission — under the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO). This move comes following consultations with industry stakeholders to ensure seamless industry readiness. 

New Compliance Deadline:

IS 18112:2022	26th October 2025

Understanding the Compliance Requirements: 

All TVs manufactured or imported into India must comply with IS 18112:2022, in addition to meeting existing safety standards like IS 616:2017/IEC 60065:2014. 

Update for Existing Licensees: 

 Current BIS license holders are required to update their registrations to include IS 18112:2022. 

• Series Guidelines Remain Applicable: 

•  Classification and testing protocols for Plasma, LCD, and LED TVs continue to apply when integrating the new compliance standard. 

Post-Deadline Implications: 

From 26th October 2025 onward, any television models certified only under IS 616:2017/IEC 60065:2014 will not be considered valid under the BIS license. 

Standard Mark and Licensing Details: 

• After approval, the BIS license will reflect both IS 616/IEC 60065 and IS 18112 standards. 

• A single registration number will apply to both standards, positioned beneath the Standard Mark. Below is the sample logo

Key Benefits of the Extension: 

• Additional time for manufacturers, BIS-accredited labs, and government stakeholders to enhance testing infrastructure. 

• More time for R&D alignment to IS 18112:2022 specifications. 

• Currently, only two BIS-recognised labs are authorised to perform testing, highlighting the need for capacity building.
