Plastic Waste Management Registration Process

Entities involved in the manufacture, processing, recycling, reprocessing, collection, distribution, sale, or trading of plastic carry bags, plastic sheets, or plastic films are required to register under the Plastic Waste Management Rules. 

Step 1: Creating a Portal

The first step in the PWM registration process is to create a portal. This involves providing essential details about your entity and the authorized person. Ensure you have the necessary documents ready, including Company PAN, GST details, authorized person’s PAN, and Aadhar. 

Step 2: Initiate Registration 

Once the portal is created, proceed to initiate the registration process. Verify the entity and authorized person details, and upload the supporting documents as mentioned earlier. This step is crucial for validation and authentication purposes. 

Step 3: Company Registration 

Next, provide important details about your entity during the company registration phase. This includes information such as total capital investment, details of the products produced or marketed, the total quantity of plastic consumed, and other relevant information. 

Step 4: Provide Plastic Waste Generation Data

In this step, you’ll need to provide information about the quantity of plastic waste generated in different states. This includes pre-consumer and post-consumer data, giving authorities a comprehensive view of your plastic waste management practices. 

Step 5: Transaction Details 

Provide details of transactions involving plastic packaging or products with plastic packaging. This includes procurement and sales information, ensuring transparency in your business operations related to plastic waste. 

Step 6: Uploading Undertaking and Covering Letter 

As part of the registration process, upload the necessary undertaking and cover letter as required by the authorities. These documents affirm your commitment to complying with plastic waste management regulations. 

Step 7: Government Fee Payment

Process the required government fee payment to complete the registration process. This fee is also essential for the processing and approval of your PWM application. 

Step 8: Post-Compliance

Once your registration is approved, it’s important to maintain post-compliance with the PWM application. This involves: 

• Providing transaction details of plastic packaging or products with plastic packaging for the previous financial year. 

• Filing state-wise plastic waste generation data for the previous financial year. 

• Completing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) target from a registered recycler.
