The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially extended the implementation deadline for the revised standard IS 302 (Part 1): 2024/IEC 60335-1: 2020—a much-anticipated move with significant implications for manufacturers of household and similar electrical appliances.

Originally slated for enforcement from March 17, 2025, the new implementation date is March 19, 2026.

This extension comes in response to industry feedback regarding the limited timeframe available for certification and compliance. BIS aims to ensure that the domestic manufacturing ecosystem is equipped with the necessary infrastructure, testing capabilities, and resources to meet the revised requirements.

Who Needs to Comply?

All manufacturers of household, commercial, and similar electrical appliances operating at up to 250 V/480 V (AC/DC) or battery-operated systems must obtain BIS certification under the revised IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 standard to leverage this extended timeline.
