DPIIT Announces Exemptions in AC & Compressor QCOs
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has announced two important amendments to the Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019. These changes directly impact manufacturers in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.
Exemption for Hermetic Compressors Over 2TR (7000W) Cooling Capacity
Effective Date: February 11, 2025
Manufacturers of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment using Hermetic Compressors above 2TR (7000W) are now exempted from the provisions of the QCO. This exemption is valid for one year from the commencement of the amendment and is aimed at easing regulatory pressure amid supply challenges.
Exemption for Hermetic Compressors Up to 2TR (7000W) Cooling Capacity
Effective Date: April 17, 2025
This amendment provides a 1-year exemption for manufacturers using Hermetic Compressors up to 2TR (7000W) on an actual user basis, offering further relief to manufacturers during a time of high demand and limited local availability.
Why These Amendments Matter:
These regulatory relaxations are designed to bridge the shortfall in local compressor production, ensuring uninterrupted supply and helping the country prepare for anticipated heatwaves. The move also reflects the government’s balanced approach to enforcing quality standards while supporting industry adaptability and growth.
