BIS Certification Must for Pumps Under OTR
As we move further into our series, today, we spotlight a crucial product category under the Bureau of Indian Standards Scheme X – Omnibus Technical Regulation (OTR): pumps and liquid-handling equipment.
A wide range of pumps will soon fall under mandatory BIS certification, making compliance essential for manufacturers and importers operating in the Indian market. Whether you’re dealing with centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, jet pumps, or liquid elevators, if your product falls under any of the following HSN codes, this regulation applies to you:
- 841430
- 841440
- 84148011
- 84148090
- 84149011
- 84149019
- 84149040
- 84149090
Why this regulation?
The aim is clear: to bring uniformity, ensure user safety, and strengthen product reliability in the Indian market. It’s a significant step toward regulating critical components used across various industries.
- Compliance Deadline: 1st September 2026
Mark this date—because after this, BIS certification will no longer be optional for these product categories.
- Note: If your machinery or equipment is already covered under any other BIS Quality Control Order (QCO), then this OTR regulation does not apply to you. But for everyone else falling under the specified scope, obtaining a BIS license will soon become mandatory.
If you’re a manufacturer or importer in this space, now is the ideal time to start preparing. Early planning and proactive certification not only avoid last-minute hassles but also ensure uninterrupted business operations and smoother market access.
