As India tightens its regulatory lens on industrial equipment, manufacturers and importers of filtering and purifying machinery must prepare for a significant update.

Under the BIS Scheme X – Omnibus Technical Regulation (OTR), it will soon be mandatory to obtain BIS certification for centrifuges and machinery used for filtering or purifying liquids and gases, including their assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.

This includes essential industrial equipment such as:

  • Industrial filtration units
  • Gas purification systems

These machines are critical across industries like pharmaceuticals, water treatment, oil & gas, chemical processing, and food & beverage — where clean air and liquid processes are non-negotiable.
