BIS Certification Must for All Types of Compressor Under OTR
Today’s insight focuses on compressors—a key category now brought under the Bureau of Indian Standards Scheme X–OTR (Omnibus Technical Regulation).
This regulation covers all types of compressors, including their assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components. If your products fall into any of these categories, compliance is non-negotiable.
Types of compressors included:
- Centrifugal compressors
- Rotary screw compressors
- Reciprocating compressors
- Axial compressors
- Rotary vane compressors
- And more similar equipment
Applicable HSN codes:
If your products are classified under any of the following HSN codes, this regulation applies to you:
- 841430
- 841440
- 84148011
- 84148090
- 84149011
- 84149019
- 84149040
- 84149090
Compliance Deadline:
1st September 2026 — Mark your calendars. From this date, BIS licensing will be mandatory for all covered compressor categories.
Important Clarification:
This order does not apply to any machinery or electrical equipment that already falls under any other Quality Control Order (QCO) issued by BIS.
However, if your products are not currently covered elsewhere and meet the criteria defined in the Omnibus Technical Regulation, then you must obtain a BIS license to legally sell or distribute them in India.
So, if you’re a manufacturer or importer of compressors or their components, now is the time to start preparing. Proactive compliance means avoiding supply chain disruptions and ensuring a smooth pathway to continued market access.
