Today, we shift our focus to a critical safety component: electrical emergency stop devices with mechanical latching functions. These devices play a vital role in preventing accidents and ensuring the rapid shutdown of machinery during emergencies.

The applicable Indian standard is IC/IEC 60947: Part 5: Section 5: 2016, which outlines the safety, performance, and functional requirements for these components within low-voltage switchgear and controlgear systems.

This standard covers various actuator types, including:

  • Push-button
  • Trip wire
  • Rope pull
  • Bar
  • Foot pedal
  • And other mechanical latch types

Such devices are commonly used in industrial, manufacturing, and process environments, where safety and immediate human intervention are crucial.

The compliance deadline is 10th November 2025, and given the time needed for product testing, documentation, and BIS approvals, early action is highly recommended.

If your business manufactures or supplies emergency stop devices in India, SchemeX certification is mandatory to meet Indian regulatory standards and ensure product safety.
