BIS Issues Guidelines for IS 16333 (Part 3):2022 Amendment

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued guidelines for the implementation of Amendment No.1 to IS 16333 (Part 3): 2022 – Indian Language Support for Mobile Phone Handsets. 

Key Changes Introduced in Clause 6: 

• BIS mandates that each mobile phone handset must include an instruction manual, either in printed form or digital mode (via online user guide or QR code). 

• The method for accessing the information in digital mode must be provided on the product packaging. 

Implementation Deadline:  

The amendment will be implemented from 19 September 2025.  

Until then, the standard without Amendment No. 1 remains valid. 

What Applicants need to do: 

• All the applicants of Mobile Phone Handset must ensure the facilitation of the service Manual either in physical or digital form before the deadline. 

• If there is any change in the instruction manual format, BIS must be duly informed.

This step by BIS promotes digital ease and enhances consumer accessibility, aligning with evolving technology trends in India and making devices more user-friendly.
