BIS Extends Deadline for Household Refrigerating Appliances

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has extended the implementation timeline for the revised standard IS 17SSO (Part 1): 2024 — “Household Refrigerating Appliances — Characteristics and Test Methods — Part I: General Requirements.”

Originally scheduled for enforcement from 12 May 2025, the new implementation date is now extended to 12 May 2026, following feedback and requests from manufacturers across the industry.

What Does This Mean for the Industry?

The concurrent applicability of IS 17SSO:2021 and IS 17550:2024 will continue until 12 May 2026. All licensees and applicants are advised to update their compliance and testing procedures accordingly to ensure a smooth transition.
