BIS Certification Must for Weaving Machines Under OTR
The textile industry is now under sharper regulatory focus. As part of the Bureau of Indian Standards Scheme X – Omnibus Technical Regulation (OTR), all types of weaving machines and their components must obtain BIS certification to be legally manufactured, sold, or imported in India.
Scope of Regulation:
Applies to weaving machines (looms) along with their assemblies, sub-assemblies and components.
Includes:
- Shuttle Looms
- Rapier Looms
- Air-Jet Looms
- Water-Jet Looms
- Projectile Looms
- Jacquard Looms
- Dobby Looms
- Handlooms
- Power Looms
- Circular Looms
Applicable HSN Codes:
- 8446
- 844811
- 844819
- 844842
- 844849
Compliance Deadline:
1st September 2026, giving the industry time to prepare — but considering the complexities of the certification process, early action is highly recommended.
Important Note:
This regulation does not apply to equipment already covered under other Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by BIS.
What Should You Do?
If you manufacture or import weaving machinery or components under the specified scope, it is essential to initiate the BIS certification process without delay to ensure uninterrupted operations in the Indian market.
