In a significant continuation, CPCB has taken another monumental step by introducing a comprehensive framework for the generation of EPR certificates, specifically targeting key metals extracted from E-waste.
CPCB has classified the metals into the following groups-
1. Precious Metal: Gold (Au)
2. Non-Ferrous: Copper and Aluminium
3. Ferrous: Iron (including steel and galvanized iron)
For the initial two years, EPR certificates will be limited to the precious metal Gold (Au), Non-Ferrous Metals [Al and Cu] and Iron [including steel and galvanized iron]. Rare Earth and other precious materials will also be incentivized under the EPR Regime.
The average material composition of key metals in terms of weight has been given in Annexure I.
The framework sets guidelines for EPR liability, excess material adjustment, target fulfilment, and metal percentages in E-waste categories.
