The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially extended the implementation deadline for the revised standard IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 IEC 60335-1: 2020 —– a much-awaited step that has major implications for the household and similar electrical appliances industry.
The order was originally scheduled to take effect on March 17, 2025, but a revised timeline for its enforcement has now been announced.
- Revised Implementation Date: March 19, 2026
All the manufacturers for household/commercial and similar electrical appliances (up to 250 V/480 V, AC/DC or battery-operated) ensure BIS certification under IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 to leverage the extension.
BIS made this announcement in response to industry concerns about the limited certification timeline, aiming to ensure the manufacturing ecosystem has sufficient time and infrastructure to comply.
